Updated 3 October 2026.
Most manufacturers do not need more website traffic. They need their specifications in text that an engineer’s search can find, and an enquiry route that a procurement team will actually use. SKF, a global bearings maker that was effectively invisible in Indian search, saw organic traffic rise 565% across 937,815 impressions after that kind of work, measured in its own analytics[1].
If you searched for digital marketing for manufacturers, here is the practical version. It covers specification pages, the RFQ path, search for part and product queries, LinkedIn and Google, and how to tell whether any of it is producing business. It is written for manufacturers and industrial suppliers, and for the person who has to defend the budget to a sales head.
How industrial buyers search
An engineer or sourcing manager does not search for your brand story. They search by specification: a size, a rating, a material, a standard, a part number, an application. Those searches have low volume and high intent, and a single ranking can be worth a multi-year supply contract. That is the opposite of consumer marketing, where volume is the point.
The people involved also differ. A design engineer wants data. A procurement lead wants a comparable, safe vendor. A plant head wants to know it will fit and ship on time. A distributor wants to know you will support them. Your site has to answer each one without sending anyone to a phone call first.
What each page on a manufacturer’s site has to do
| Page | Question the buyer asks | What it must contain | Action it should lead to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Product or category page | Do you make what I need | Range, key variants, applications, links to each specification page | Open a specification page |
| Specification page | Will it meet my requirement | Ratings, dimensions, materials, standards and part numbers as text | Request a quote |
| Datasheet | Can I send this to my team | A downloadable file that repeats, and does not replace, the page text | Request a quote or share |
| Application or industry page | Have you solved my kind of problem | The use case, the product choices, a named example if allowed | Request a quote |
| Case study | Can I trust you with this | Problem, product used, result, and who confirmed it | Contact sales |
| RFQ page | How do I get a price | A short form, what happens next, expected response time | Submit |
| Dealer or distributor page | Where do I buy locally | Locations, contact, coverage area | Call or visit |
Specification pages that search engines can read
This is where most manufacturers lose. The numbers that decide a purchase sit inside a PDF datasheet or an image of a table, and a search engine, an AI assistant and a tired engineer on a phone all struggle with both.
Put the real figures in the page text. Chemistry, cycle life, thermal tolerance, form factor, voltage, load rating, whichever apply to your product. Keep the PDF as a download, but make the page complete without it. Give each product family or variant one clear URL, with the part number in the title and the heading, and link related variants to each other.
Structured data helps too. Google separates product snippets, for product pages where people cannot buy directly, from merchant listings, for pages where customers can purchase[2]. Most manufacturers sell by quotation, so product snippet markup usually fits the page. Mark up only what is visibly on the page.
Rewrite internal product names into the words buyers type. If your range is called a series name nobody outside the company knows, the page should still say what it is, in plain terms, in the first line.
The RFQ path
An RFQ form is a sales tool, so design it like one. Ask for the product or part, the quantity, the application and the delivery location. Four or five fields is usually enough. A form that asks for fifteen things loses the engineer who only wanted a price for a sample.
Say what happens after submitting. A line such as “an application engineer replies within one working day” does more than a decorative thank-you page, as long as you keep the promise. Put the same enquiry link on every product and specification page, not only in the menu.
Track every route in: the form, a click on the phone number, an email link and a datasheet download. Our B2B websites start at ₹1,75,000 plus GST on the website development page, and include product or solution architecture, relevant proof, an enquiry or RFQ path and core analytics. The price moves with page count, catalogue size and integrations.
If you are rebuilding an existing site, protect what already ranks. Review valuable pages, plan redirects and test them before launch. We cannot guarantee rankings through a rebuild, but a rebuild without a redirect plan is how a site loses them.
SEO for part and product searches
Search for a manufacturer is mostly four kinds of query. Product searches (“precision gear manufacturer”). Specification and part-number searches. Application searches (“pump for [process]”). And comparison or alternative searches. Each needs a page that answers it directly.
Start from what people already search. Search Console shows the queries you are shown for today, including odd ones you did not plan for, and that list is a better brief than any keyword tool for a niche with little volume. Then build the missing pages, and link guides and application pages into the specification pages they feed.
Our case studies record what this looked like on real sites. The SKF case study records the +565% above. For Sudhir Power, a full site rebuild that kept existing rankings lifted organic traffic by 245%. And for Jakson, work to make an energy company searchable beyond the generators it was known for brought organic traffic up 574% to 15,394 sessions. These are traffic and impression numbers from each client’s own analytics, not order values, and the dates are on each case study. There are more on the case studies hub, including Prem Cables.
Our B2B SEO page explains how we scope this work, and our guide to B2B SEO, AEO and GEO covers the AI-search side. AI assistants now answer “who makes this” questions directly, and they quote pages with clear text and structure. A capture from one query on one day showed Metso listed first for a mining crushing machine query in a Google AI Overview. Those answers change, so treat them as a sign the page is readable, not a position you own.
LinkedIn and Google
Google Search ads work for manufacturers when the keywords are specific. Bid on product and part terms, send each ad to the matching specification page, and keep broad terms out. Display remarketing then follows people who viewed a product page and did not enquire, which suits a buying cycle that runs for weeks.
LinkedIn reaches the people who specify and approve. Target job titles such as design engineer, plant head, procurement manager or distributor principal. Use it for a product demo video, a technical guide and a case study, not for a generic brand ad. Post factory and process videos from the company page, and encourage your own engineers to share them, because a named engineer is more believable than a logo. Our B2B digital marketing page lists the channels we run for industrial clients.
YouTube earns its place for machinery in action, assembly walkthroughs and troubleshooting. Add the specification and a link to the product page in the description, and keep the videos short.
Email is for people you already know: existing customers, distributors and past enquiries. Announce a new range, share a case study, or send a technical note. Skip discount-style offers, which sit oddly with a quotation-led product.
Measurement for a long sales cycle
A form fill is not a sale in this category. Measure each stage, and have the sales team confirm which enquiries were real.
| What to track | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| Impressions and clicks on product and specification queries (Search Console) | Shows whether the pages are being found |
| Enquiries by product line and source | Shows which pages and channels bring RFQs |
| Qualified enquiries, marked by sales | Separates real demand from students and spam |
| Quotes sent and orders won from marketing-sourced leads | Connects marketing to revenue |
| Datasheet downloads and demo video views | Shows early interest before an enquiry |
Google Ads can import offline conversions, which lets you tell it which clicks became qualified leads or orders, as long as the click ID is captured on your forms and stored with the lead[3]. Without that, campaigns optimise for whoever fills in the form fastest. If you run paid search, set it up in the first month.
Report monthly, judge quarterly. A cost-per-lead target built for consumer products will mislead you here, and we do not publish a benchmark because we do not have one that holds across categories.
What it costs
SEO with us starts at ₹50,000 plus GST a month, priced by keyword volume, on the SEO services page. Paid search and LinkedIn management is the higher of 15% of monthly media or ₹50,000 plus GST a month, with media separate. Our guide for manufacturers and suppliers choosing an agency explains what to ask before you sign anything.
A product with no search demand, such as a new technology that nobody has a name for yet, will not respond to SEO the way a bearing does, and we would tell you that before you spend.
Frequently Asked Questions
How does digital marketing help manufacturers get leads?
It puts your specifications in front of engineers and buyers who are already searching, and gives them an easy way to request a quote. For most manufacturers that means specification pages, an RFQ form and search visibility on product and part queries, not social reach.
What should a manufacturer’s product page include?
The real specification as page text: ratings, dimensions, materials, standards and part numbers. Add applications, a datasheet download that repeats the page, and a clear request-a-quote link.
Is SEO worth it for industrial products with low search volume?
Yes, often more than for consumer products, because the searches are specific and the buyers are close to a decision. One enquiry can be worth a large order, so a few well-ranked pages can matter more than broad traffic.
Does LinkedIn work for manufacturers?
Yes, for reaching design engineers, plant heads and procurement managers by job title. Use it for technical guides, product demo videos and case studies rather than generic brand posts.
How do you measure marketing for a long sales cycle?
Track enquiries, qualified enquiries, quotes and orders by source, and feed outcomes back to Google Ads through offline conversion import. Judge quarterly, not by cost per lead in a single month.
How much does manufacturing digital marketing cost?
SEO starts at ₹50,000 plus GST a month and a B2B website with an RFQ path starts at ₹1,75,000 plus GST. Paid media management is the higher of 15% of media or ₹50,000 plus GST a month, with ad spend separate.
