The seven types of digital marketing are SEO, paid search, social media marketing, content marketing, email marketing, influencer and UGC marketing, and video marketing. AI search, which agencies call AEO and GEO, now sits on top of SEO rather than beside it.
Almost no business needs all seven at once. A clinic in Lucknow, a pump maker in Coimbatore and a skincare brand selling on Instagram each need two or three, and they are rarely the same two or three. This guide explains what each type does, who it suits in India, what it costs with us and how long it takes to show results, so you can pick a starting mix instead of buying a bundle.
The audience is there for all of them. India had 806 million internet users at the start of 2025 and 491 million social media user identities [1]. Advertisers have followed: digital took 49% of Indian ad spend in 2024, about ₹49,251 crore [2].
The seven types side by side
| Type | What it does | Best for | What it costs with us | When results show |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| SEO, with AEO and GEO | Gets you found on Google and in AI answers without paying per click | Any business whose buyers search before they call | ₹50,000 to ₹2,00,000 + GST a month | Months, and it compounds |
| Paid search (PPC) | Puts an ad in front of people searching right now | Services and products with clear search demand | Higher of 15% of media or ₹50,000 + GST a month, plus media | Days, once tracking works |
| Social media marketing | Builds attention and demand on Instagram, Facebook, LinkedIn and YouTube | Consumer brands, education, property, B2B on LinkedIn | ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,00,000 + GST a month | Weeks for reach, months for brand |
| Content marketing | Answers buyers’ questions in guides, case studies and comparisons | B2B, healthcare, finance, anything bought after research | Included in every SEO plan; larger programmes scoped by the work | Months |
| Email marketing | Brings back people who already know you | B2B, repeat-purchase brands, education follow-up | Mostly the sending tool and writing time | Days, if you have a list |
| Influencer and UGC marketing | Borrows trust from creators and real customers | D2C, food, beauty, apps, consumer launches | UGC from ₹8,000 a video; creator fees from ₹10,000 a post | Days to weeks |
| Video marketing | Explains, demonstrates and sells on YouTube, reels and your site | Products that need showing, not telling | 10 brand videos for ₹1,50,000; AI films from ₹75,000 | Weeks |
1. SEO, and the AI search layer on top of it
Search engine optimisation is the work that makes your pages rank when someone types a problem you solve. It covers the technical health of the site, the pages themselves, the content that answers buyer questions, and the links and mentions that make Google trust you.
AI answers now sit above many of those results. Google says a page needs nothing extra to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond being indexed and eligible to show a snippet [4]. In practice that means AEO and GEO are SEO done properly: clear answers, structured data, facts a machine can quote. Every one of our SEO plans includes it.

Our plans run from ₹50,000 + GST a month (Starter, 30 keywords) to ₹2,00,000 (Resource-based, two dedicated specialists). SEO is slow to start and hard to switch off once it works, which is why it suits almost every business with a website. The SEO cost guide breaks the plans down.
2. Paid search, the fastest way to be found
Paid search, also called PPC or Google Ads, puts your ad at the top of results for searches you choose. You pay when someone clicks. It is the one channel that can bring an enquiry tomorrow, which also makes it the easiest place to waste money.
Most waste comes from loose keywords. A campaign bidding on “website design” will pay for students looking for inspiration as happily as for a buyer looking for an agency. Negative keywords, tight match types and proper conversion tracking matter more than the bid.
With us, ads management costs the higher of 15% of your media spend or ₹50,000 + GST a month, and the rate falls to 10% of the whole budget from ₹20,00,000 of monthly media. The media itself is paid to Google from your own account. We suggest ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 a month as a floor, because below that a campaign rarely gathers enough data to improve. The performance marketing cost guide shows the arithmetic.
3. Social media marketing, organic and paid
Social media marketing is two jobs that people often mix up. Organic social is your brand’s own posts, reels and community. Paid social is advertising on Meta, LinkedIn or YouTube, aimed at people who were not searching for you yet. India’s 491 million social media identities [1] make paid social the cheapest way to reach a new audience at scale.

Our social media retainers start at ₹1,00,000 + GST a month for 4 to 6 videos and 12 creatives, ₹1,25,000 with two AI videos included, and ₹2,00,000 with a shoot day and in-house creators. Ad spend is separate. Organic social builds trust slowly; paid social reaches people within days but stops the moment the budget does. Most brands need both. The social media cost guide compares the packages.
4. Content marketing, answering the questions buyers ask
Content marketing is publishing things that help a buyer decide: guides, comparisons, case studies, specification pages, price explainers. Done well, it feeds SEO, gives your sales team something to send, and gives AI answers something to quote.
Language is the part most Indian brands skip. In the IAMAI and Kantar Internet in India 2024 study, 57% of users said they prefer content in regional languages [3]. A Hindi or Malayalam version of your best page can outperform a fifth English blog post.
Content strategy and briefs come with every SEO plan, and larger programmes are priced by the pieces involved. The content marketing cost guide explains how to price a brief.
5. Email marketing, the channel you already own
Email marketing is sending useful, regular messages to people who have given you their address: past customers, enquiries that went quiet, students who downloaded a prospectus. It is the cheapest channel to run once the list exists, because nobody charges you per click.
It works best where people buy more than once or take weeks to decide. A B2B manufacturer can send a quarterly product update to every distributor. A college can follow up every unconverted enquiry with three short emails before the admission deadline. A D2C brand can bring a customer back for a refill.
The costs are a sending tool and someone to write. The common mistake is buying a list. Bought lists hurt deliverability and break the trust email depends on. Build the list from your own site, events and customers, and send something worth opening.
6. Influencer and UGC marketing, trust you borrow
Influencer marketing pays creators to talk about your product to their audience. UGC, user-generated content, uses real people on camera to make ads that feel like a recommendation rather than a commercial. Both work because people trust a person more than a logo.

Creator fees in India vary widely: about ₹10,000 to ₹15,000 a deliverable for nano creators, ₹30,000 to ₹1,00,000 for micro creators, and ₹1,00,000 to ₹25,00,000 for macro and celebrity names. Our influencer agency fee is ₹75,000 or 10% of the total budget, whichever is higher. UGC videos cost ₹15,000 each on a 5-pack and ₹8,000 each on a 20-pack. The influencer marketing cost guide covers how to budget a campaign.
7. Video marketing, for products that need showing
Video marketing covers brand films, product demos, explainers, short reels and YouTube ads. YouTube alone could reach 491 million people in India with ads in early 2025 [1]. If your product is easier to show than to describe, video usually beats text on every channel above.
The format decides the cost. Our brand video packs cost ₹1,50,000 for 10 videos and ₹2,75,000 for 20. AI ad films start at ₹75,000 per 30 seconds of finished film. A factory or product shoot for a B2B site is scoped by the location and the number of products. The video production cost guide compares the options.
Which two or three to start with
Start with where your buyer already looks, then add the channel that brings them back. Four patterns cover most of the businesses we speak to.
A local service business, such as a clinic, a coaching institute or a hotel, usually starts with SEO and paid search, because people search with intent and a location. Social ads come next, for reach before the busy season.
A B2B manufacturer or exporter starts with SEO, content and LinkedIn. Engineers compare specifications before they call, and the sale takes months, so email to past enquiries pays for itself.
A D2C or consumer brand starts with paid social, UGC and influencers to create demand, and adds SEO for the searches that demand creates. Video runs through all of it.
A college or education brand runs paid search and Meta ads around the admission calendar, with content in the regional language and email for every enquiry that has not yet enrolled.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are the 7 types of digital marketing?
SEO, paid search (PPC), social media marketing, content marketing, email marketing, influencer and UGC marketing, and video marketing. AI search optimisation (AEO and GEO) now sits on top of SEO.
Which type of digital marketing is best for a small business in India?
Usually SEO and paid search. Paid search brings enquiries within days, and SEO builds the free traffic that lowers your cost per lead over the following months. Add social ads once those two are working.
How much does digital marketing cost in India?
With DigiStreet, SEO starts at ₹50,000 + GST a month, ads management is the higher of 15% of media or ₹50,000 + GST a month, and social media retainers start at ₹1,00,000 + GST a month. Ad budgets are paid to the platforms separately.
Is SEO still worth it with AI answers?
Yes. Google says pages need no special requirements to appear in AI Overviews or AI Mode beyond being indexed and eligible for a snippet, so good SEO is also how you get into AI answers.
What is the difference between influencer marketing and UGC?
Influencer marketing pays a creator to post to their own audience. UGC uses real people on camera to make ads that you run from your own accounts. UGC with us costs ₹8,000 a video on a 20-video pack.
Do I need all seven types of digital marketing?
No. Most businesses need two or three at a time, chosen by where their buyers look first. Adding channels before the first ones work usually spreads the budget too thin to learn anything.
