Stem cell banking and life sciences training is not the kind of subject you can certify with a generic quiz plugin. The material is technical, the compliance stakes are real, and a training partner as large as CRYOVIVA Life Sciences needed an assessment system built specifically for how its teams actually work: multiple modules, repeat attempts that do not simply recycle the same questions, and a completion certificate that means something.
That is the brief Digistreet Media was handed: design and build a browser based, proctored assessment platform for stem cell and life sciences training, with an administrator console and a trainee portal, ready for real world use across desktop, tablet and mobile.
The Challenge: Training and Certifying Teams at Scale, Without the Usual Shortcuts
Most off the shelf quiz tools solve for a simple case: one set of questions, one attempt, one generic pass or fail screen. That does not hold up in a regulated, technical training environment. CRYOVIVA needed a platform that could:
- Give every retry a real second attempt: a trainee who fails and comes back should not simply see the same questions again.
- Support both always-open and scheduled training: some modules should be available any time, others need to open and close within a defined exam window.
- Protect exam integrity without a human invigilator: switching tabs, losing focus or leaving fullscreen should end the attempt automatically, with the reason recorded.
- Issue a certificate automatically, correctly: once every assigned module is passed, the trainee should get a branded certificate without an administrator manually checking each record.
- Keep registration under control: trainees should be able to request access themselves, but only administrators decide who gets approved.
- Give administrators real reporting: not just a pass or fail count, but exportable data on users, assignments and every attempt.
Every one of these was a genuine requirement, not a nice to have. Each one shaped how the platform was actually built.
What We Built: The CRYOVIVA Assessment Platform
Digistreet Media’s web application development team built the platform around two roles and one shared idea: assessment should be simple for the trainee and fully controllable for the administrator.
Two Roles, One Console
Administrators manage everything: users, exam modules, question sets, assignments, attempt controls, certificate design and reporting, all from a single console. Trainees see only what applies to them, their assigned modules, their exam queue, their certificate progress and their own account settings. Neither side is cluttered with the other’s job.
Multi-Set Exams, So a Retry Is an Actual Retry
Every module can carry up to three independent question sets. A trainee’s first attempt serves Set 1, a second attempt serves Set 2, and a third serves Set 3, so a retake is a genuine second chance rather than a repeat of the same paper. Administrators add, edit and delete questions per set from the same Manage Exam screen where they configure time limits, passing percentage and maximum attempts.
Two Access Modes: Always Open or Scheduled
Some modules stay open whenever a trainee is ready for them. Others run inside a scheduled window, with a start date and time administrators set directly on the exam. Outside that window the exam card shows Upcoming or Window Closed and the action button disables itself. Inside the window it opens normally and behaves like any other timed attempt.
Proctoring That Runs Without a Human in the Room
Once an attempt begins, the platform watches for the behaviours that undermine an exam result: switching browser tabs, losing window focus, exiting fullscreen or navigating away. Any of these automatically submits the attempt and records the exact reason, for example a screen change or a window that lost focus and became hidden, so administrators can see precisely what happened on every flagged attempt.
Branded Certificates, Issued the Moment They Are Earned
When a trainee passes every module assigned to them, the platform issues a completion certificate automatically, with no manual sign off required. Administrators control the certificate’s brand label, tagline, body copy and signatory through a certificate designer, with tokens like trainee name, completion date, modules passed and certificate ID substituted in automatically. Trainees can view and download the certificate as a standalone file straight from their dashboard.
Approval Based Registration and Self-Service Passwords
New trainees can request access themselves from the login page. That request lands in the administrator’s Approvals queue as Pending, and only an administrator’s approval turns it into an active account with an auto-generated password. Existing trainees can change their own password from the portal, or recover it themselves through a time-limited reset link, without needing to involve an administrator at all.
Reporting, Exports and Live Search
Every action an administrator might need is backed by real data: CSV exports for users, assignment status, exam summaries and full attempt history, each respecting whatever filters are active on screen. A live search box filters matching rows across the entire admin console at once, so finding one trainee among twenty one, or two hundred, takes a few keystrokes rather than a scroll.
The admin console above shows the Assessment Control Center in daily use: registered users, pending approvals, exam assignments and submitted attempts, all visible the moment an administrator logs in.
On the trainee side, the portal keeps things just as direct. A trainee can see exactly how many modules are assigned, how many are passed, and how close they are to their completion certificate, without hunting through menus to find it.
Built and Verified: 70 Test Cases Across 15 Modules
Before CRYOVIVA’s team touched the live platform, Digistreet Media ran it through a structured user acceptance testing process covering 70 test cases across 15 functional areas, from authentication and registration approvals to exam management, proctoring, scheduled exam windows and completion certificates. Every test case came back ready for UAT, confirmed across Chrome, Edge, Firefox and Safari, on desktop, tablet and mobile. The one item still pending at the time of writing is outbound email delivery configuration, which affects only notification emails and not any core assessment functionality.
