About 50 people work as web developers in the whole Roanoke, VA metro area, and they earn a mean of $48.47 an hour, a shade above the US mean of $47.49 [1][2]. The head count matters more than the wage when you pick who builds your website.
DigiStreet Media builds websites for US companies from Noida, India. Below is what the wage data says about Roanoke, what we charge in dollars, and when to hire locally anyway.
Fifty web developers for the whole Roanoke metro area
The U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics publishes jobs and wages for every metro area each year. Its May 2025 estimates, released on 15 May 2026, show these figures for the Roanoke, VA metro area [1]. None of these figures is an agency price; they are what employers pay staff.
| Occupation | Jobs in the Roanoke, VA metro area | Roanoke mean hourly wage | US mean hourly wage |
|---|---|---|---|
| Web developers | 50 | $48.47 | $47.49 |
| Web and digital interface designers | 60 | Not published by BLS | $56.49 |
| Graphic designers | 150 | $29.41 | $33.92 |

Fifty is a small number. BLS puts web developers at 0.303 jobs for every 1,000 in the Roanoke area, and a location quotient of 0.67, which means the job is about a third less common in the local workforce than in the country as a whole [2]. The count covers every employer in the area, so in-house web staff sit inside the same 50 as agency employees.
Graphic designers are the bigger local group, at 150 jobs and a mean of $29.41 an hour, $4.51 below the national figure [3]. A graphic designer can draw your homepage. Someone still has to build it, and in Roanoke that someone comes from a very short list.
Why a bench of 50 matters more than the hourly rate
When a metro area has 50 web developers, any one studio employs only a few of them. That changes what you should ask before you sign.
Ask who will build your site, by name, and who covers for that person. A two-week vacation in the middle of a build becomes a two-week delay if nobody else knows the code. A resignation is worse: with so few developers in the area, a replacement can be slow to find, and your project waits.
Small firms in Virginia open and close all the time. Between March 2023 and March 2024, small businesses accounted for 31,514 establishment openings and 28,134 closings in the state, according to the SBA Office of Advocacy [9]. The figure covers every industry, and it is still the best argument for getting your domain, hosting and code into your own name before anyone starts work, whoever you hire.
We do that by default: domain, hosting, code and analytics sit in the client’s name, and ownership of source files and accounts goes into the proposal before work starts.
What $3,300 buys in Roanoke, and what it buys from us
Our corporate website starts at $3,300, so measure that against what a Roanoke developer costs to employ. If benefits run at the private-industry average, wages are 70% of the employer’s cost [4], so a developer on the $48.47 mean costs the employer about $69.24 an hour ($48.47 divided by 0.70) before office, software, sales or profit. At that cost, $3,300 pays for about 47.7 hours of one person’s time. An agency has to charge more than that to cover rent and make a margin.
In its 2026 pricing guide, Clutch gives $100 to $149 an hour as the usual rate for US web design companies [5]. At those rates, $3,300 buys 22 to 33 hours. Our basic website price, $1,450, would buy about 10 to 14.5 hours.

Clutch also reports an average project cost of $38,105 from verified reviews, though most projects reviewed there cost under $10,000 and run for about seven months [5].
Our US prices are starting points in US dollars. Websites start at $1,450, B2B websites at $2,600, corporate websites at $3,300 and ecommerce websites at $3,700. Keeping the site hosted and maintained costs from $300 a month. The basic tier gives you responsive layouts, the core business pages, a contact path and a CMS handover. Corporate sites add an information architecture built for a company, reusable CMS components and separate paths for different stakeholders. Every tier is broken down on our website development service page.

Working across the Roanoke and Noida clocks
Roanoke runs on US Eastern time. We take calls from 8:00 am to 12:00 noon Eastern on weekdays. India stays on UTC+05:30 all year and does not observe daylight saving time [7], so that window falls at 5:30 pm to 9:30 pm in Noida while US clocks are forward, and 6:30 pm to 10:30 pm after they go back. In 2026 daylight saving time ends on 1 November [6].
Our working day runs while Roanoke sleeps, so the changes you agree on the morning call are worked on during your night.
A site takes 14 to 30 days, complex projects about two months, and most business and B2B sites go live in three to four weeks. The pace is set mostly by how fast your content and approvals come back.
Your Roanoke search ranking does not depend on your agency’s address
Some owners hire locally hoping a Roanoke address helps them in Roanoke searches. Google’s help page names relevance, distance and prominence as the main inputs for local results, with distance meaning how far your business sits from whoever is searching [8]. The location of whoever built your website is not on that list. Your Google Business Profile, your reviews and your own pages are. The same page says more reviews and positive ratings can help.
Before a redesign moves anything, we review the content and entry points that already bring you visitors and plan the redirects. Ongoing SEO is a separate monthly plan: Starter at $750 (30 keywords), Growth at $1,100 (50 keywords), Scale at $1,850 (80 keywords) or Resource-based at $2,950 with two dedicated specialists. AEO and GEO, for visibility in AI answers, come with every plan. The details are on our SEO and digital marketing page for US companies.
When a Roanoke agency is the better buy
Hire locally if you need people in the room. A day of workshops with your partners, a photo or video shoot at your premises, or a procurement rule that says the vendor must be a US company all point to a firm that can drive to your door.
If none of those applies, the decision comes down to price, speed to launch and who will still be around to fix the site next year. Our guide on how to choose a web design company lists the questions to ask any agency, and website design for small businesses covers what a small company needs on day one. The national version of this comparison is in local web design agency vs offshore agency.
Four Florida clients and the sites we built for them
All four of our US clients are in Florida. Medical Account Systems (masrecovery.com) has been an attorney-driven revenue cycle partner to US healthcare providers since 1999. We designed and developed its site mobile-first, around one clear “Request a Consultation” path. The Medical Account Systems website story has the background.

Voting Portals makes election-management software. We did its website development and SEO, and its Marketing Head, Don Gonzales, put the relationship this way: “Over the last five years, Kavish Arora and the team at DigiStreet Media have become an extended part of our marketing team.” The Voting Portals case study has the detail.

We also built sites for Santos Public Adjusters, a Miami public adjusting firm, and the law firm Solomon Cooperman Recondo. Outside the US we built Kobelco India’s corporate website. We are rated 4.8 out of 5 from 250+ reviews on Google, Clutch, AmbitionBox and Facebook.
