How many UGC videos a brand actually needs

Updated 30 October 2026.

Most brands buy five UGC videos and wonder why the test proved nothing. Your ad spend sets the number, not your taste. Broad prospecting creative on Meta burns out in two to three weeks, so a live account eats about two new concepts a fortnight. That costs ₹8,000 a video on the 20-pack and ₹15,000 on the 5-pack.

Start with the refresh rate, not the budget

The question is not how many videos you can afford. It is how many your account consumes. Segwise’s creative fatigue guide, published 30 June 2026, reports that Meta concepts which used to last six weeks now burn out in two or three, and recommends refreshing broad prospecting creative every two to three weeks.

Take that at face value and one always-on prospecting campaign needs about two fresh concepts a month, and a second campaign doubles it. Over a quarter, one campaign eats six videos and two campaigns eat twelve. A five-video pack is one campaign for ten weeks, and then you are out.

This is why the test so many brands run fails. Five videos, one week, one audience, and a conclusion drawn from numbers that never left the noise.

How many variants a real test needs

A test needs enough distinct concepts that the winner is a concept and not an accident. Jon Loomer, writing on 15 September 2025, makes the point that Meta allows up to 50 ads in an ad set, that the old six-ad recommendation no longer applies, and that he runs 20 or more diverse ads in a set. He also cites a 2022 Meta study showing a 45% performance drop after four exposures.

Our working minimum is six genuinely different concepts per audience, not six edits of the same video with new text. Different hook, different speaker, different claim, different setting. Recolouring the same asset teaches you nothing.

Six concepts per audience is where the 10-pack and the 20-pack start making sense. Ten gives you six for prospecting and four for retargeting. Twenty gives you a quarter of ammunition across two audiences without going back to production mid-flight.

UGC pack prices against the monthly Meta spend each can realistically feed (our rule, from running accounts)
What you buy Price plus GST Per video Monthly ad spend it can feed Concepts a month it supports
5-pack ₹75,000 ₹15,000 ₹50,000 to ₹1,00,000 2, for about 10 weeks
10-pack ₹90,000 ₹9,000 ₹1,00,000 to ₹2,00,000 2 to 4, for about a quarter
20-pack ₹1,60,000 ₹8,000 ₹2,00,000 to ₹5,00,000 4 to 6, for about two quarters
Shoot day inside Social + Production ₹2,00,000 a month Not sold per video Any, as a top-up to packs One month of cutdowns
AI film retainer ₹2,00,000 a month Not sold per video Any, where shooting is not possible 8 to 10 films a month

Why the per-video price falls so sharply

UGC packs are 5 for ₹75,000, 10 for ₹90,000 and 20 for ₹1,60,000 plus GST. That is ₹15,000 a video on the 5-pack, ₹9,000 on the 10-pack and ₹8,000 on the 20-pack.

The drop is not a discount for loyalty. It is the brief. The expensive part of a UGC video is agreeing what it says: the product knowledge, the claims you are allowed to make, the creator casting, the shot list. Once that work exists, video eleven costs a fraction of video one.

The same logic runs the other way. Five videos ordered one at a time over five months cost more than five videos ordered together, because the brief gets rebuilt every time.

Matching video volume to ad spend

Here is the rule we use. Every ₹1,00,000 of monthly Meta spend needs about two new concepts a month to stay out of fatigue. Below ₹50,000 a month the account does not gather enough data to tell concepts apart, so buy fewer videos and more spend.

The auction is also getting dearer. Meta reported a 12% rise in the average price per ad for the June 2026 quarter, with 14% more impressions delivered. Paying 12% more per impression for last quarter’s creative is the most expensive mistake in Meta advertising.

The table puts the three packs against the spend each can realistically feed. Those spend bands are our own rule from running accounts, not a platform figure.

What a shoot day produces, and what it does not

A shoot day with in-house UGC, which sits inside our ₹2,00,000 a month social retainer, produces enough footage for a month of cutdowns. It is the right answer when the product has to be seen being handled: food, apparel, appliances, anything with a before and after.

What a shoot day does not produce is variety of face and setting. Everything shot in one day looks like one day, which is the opposite of what a prospecting campaign wants by week three. Packs and shoot days solve different problems, and plenty of our clients buy both.

The practical split we recommend for a brand on a ₹2,00,000 social retainer is to treat the shoot day as the month’s hero footage and the pack as the month’s ammunition. The hero cut goes on the product page and the profile. The pack goes into paid media, where it gets used up.

Reuse across channels without wasting the spend

One UGC video can run as a Meta ad, a Reel, a YouTube Short, a product page video and a WhatsApp broadcast. The edit changes, the footage does not. Budget for the footage once and the versions separately.

Video keeps taking share of the money. The dentsu-e4m Digital Advertising Report 2026, published 2 February 2026, puts online video at 28% of India’s digital spend and expects it at 29% by the end of 2026 after 22.3% growth, with social at 29%. Nothing in a plan built on statics survives that shift.

The one reuse we warn against is running the same cut on the same audience across Meta and YouTube at once. You pay twice for the frequency you were trying to control.

Reuse also changes what you should brief. A video shot to work as a nine-second hook with captions burned in will run anywhere. A video shot with a voiceover carrying the whole message dies the moment it plays without sound, which is most of the time on a feed.

What volume looks like over a year

A D2C brand spending ₹2,00,000 a month on Meta, running prospecting and retargeting, gets through roughly 40 to 50 concepts a year. Two 20-packs and a shoot day covers it, which is about ₹3,20,000 of video plus the retainer.

A business with one offer and ₹50,000 a month of spend needs far less: a 10-pack at ₹90,000, refreshed when the numbers say so, is usually a year of ammunition.

Brands in Delhi NCR often sit in between, and the honest answer is to start at ten and buy twenty once you know which two concepts your audience responds to.

How to decide this week

Open your ads manager and look at one number: frequency on your best prospecting ad set over the last seven days. If it is climbing past three while cost per result rises, you are already in fatigue and the pack size question is settled.

Then look at how many of your current ads are genuinely different from each other. Most accounts we audit have one concept wearing four outfits.

Our UGC video cost calculator runs on the same pack prices and will tell you the per-video number for whatever volume you are considering.

Frequently asked questions

1

How many UGC videos do I need to start?

Ten, if you are spending ₹1,00,000 or more a month on ads. Five is only enough for one campaign and about ten weeks of refreshing before you run dry.

2

What does one UGC video cost in India?

₹15,000 on the 5-pack, ₹9,000 on the 10-pack and ₹8,000 on the 20-pack, all plus GST. The pack prices are ₹75,000, ₹90,000 and ₹1,60,000.

3

How often should UGC creative be refreshed on Meta?

Every two to three weeks for broad prospecting. Segwise’s June 2026 guide reports that concepts which used to last six weeks now burn out in two or three.

4

How many different concepts should run in one ad set?

At least six genuinely different ones per audience. Meta allows up to 50 ads in an ad set, and six edits of the same video does not count as six concepts.

5

Is a shoot day better value than a UGC pack?

No, they solve different problems. A shoot day gives a month of cutdowns from one setting. A pack gives different faces, rooms and hooks, which is what a prospecting campaign needs by week three.

6

Can the same UGC video run on Meta and YouTube?

Yes, with a different edit per placement. What we avoid is the same cut hitting the same audience on both at once, because you pay twice for frequency you were trying to limit.

Send us your frequency and cost per result and we will tell you which pack you need.
