GEO for an electric bus manufacturer: 102K impressions in Google’s AI answers

JBM Buses sells electric buses to fleet operators and state transport undertakings. Over the three months to September 2026 its site was shown 102K times inside Google’s generative AI features, about 1,100 times a day. This is a case study about holding a position, and we will say so plainly.

The shift

The buyer is a procurement team

Nobody buys an electric bus on impulse. Fleet operators and transport undertakings research range, depot infrastructure, specifications and tender eligibility long before they speak to a salesperson. A growing share of that research now begins with a question put to an AI answer.

In this category the answer is short. Ask who the biggest bus manufacturers in India are and you get a handful of names. Being one of them matters more than ranking fourth for a keyword.

What we did

Wrote for the tender, not the brochure

  • Content built around fleet, tender, range and specification questions, in the words procurement teams use, not internal model names.
  • Model, application and specification pages made reachable and linked to each other, so the detail a buyer needs is not buried behind navigation.
  • Figures stated as figures. ChatGPT’s answer repeats an installed capacity of 20,000 electric buses a year at the Haryana facility, and roughly 24% of India’s e-bus market in FY26. Both are there because they were on a page in a form that can be lifted.
  • Category content on e-mobility policy and charging infrastructure, which is where much of the early research in this sector starts.

What Search Console shows

The Generative AI features report shows 102K impressions for jbmbuses.com over the last three months, about 1,100 a day. The busiest day came early in the quarter at around 1,800. The most recent month has run a little softer than the first, mostly between 600 and 1,300.

Google Search Console, jbmbuses.com, Generative AI features (Beta). The solid line is the last three months. The dotted line is all the earlier data the report holds.

So the line is level, not rising. We would rather tell you that than dress it up. In a category with perhaps half a dozen credible makers, the prize is being one of the names in the answer, and the captures we hold show that JBM is.

Google’s AI Overview lists JBM among the leaders in electric bus manufacturing in India, and ChatGPT ranks it Tier 1. The captures and their limits are here: Getting industrial brands named by AI search →

The limits

What the number does not prove

  • 102K against 35.6K is not growth. The earlier figure covers about a month, because the report only reaches back roughly four months. Day for day, the two periods are about the same.
  • The report gives impressions only, so it measures presence in AI features, not visits.
  • A captured answer belongs to one query on one day. AI answers regenerate, and differ by searcher and place.
  • Tenders are won offline over months. We make no claim that an AI impression led to one.

Questions we get asked

About this work

What does the Generative AI features report measure?

How often a site appears inside Google’s generative AI search features. It is a Beta view inside Search Console’s Performance report, and here it reports impressions only.

Why publish a case study with a flat line?

Because it is the true picture and it is still a good one. About 1,100 AI impressions a day, every day, in a category with very few buyers, alongside answers that name the company as a leader. A rising line would be nicer. It would not be honest.

Why does Search Console show 102K against 35.6K?

The comparison window is mostly empty. The report holds about four months of data, so the “previous 3 months” total is drawn from about one month.

Which matters more, the impressions or the captured answers?

They answer different questions. Impressions tell you how often you are present. The captured answers tell you what is being said. For a manufacturer on a short list of makers, what is said carries more weight.

Does this work for other EV and commercial vehicle brands?

Yes, provided the facts exist and can be published. Range, capacity, order book, certifications and depot requirements are what a model repeats. Where those stay locked in tender documents, there is nothing for it to quote.
